Whether the Château de Ré is a stopover or a place to stay for a longer stay, you will find plenty of reasons to walk and go out in the surrounding area.
The prehistory museum at Grand-Pressigny, the house of Descartes and the Château de Loches are all within a radius of less than 35 km from the château.
The region can also be explored on foot or by bicycle. Several riding schools also offer horseback riding. You can also stop at the Limouzin Farm to visit the goat farm which produces and sells the famous Sainte Maure cheese.
The restaurant La Promenade, an internationally renowned gourmet restaurant run by Chef Dallais, is located in Petit-Pressigny, less than 1 km from the Château. There are also many fine restaurants and inns in the area.
You may want to spend a day at the Futuroscope Park, which is a great success and is only an hour's drive from the château. The Beauval Zoo, one of the most beautiful in France, is about 45 minutes away. A dozen kilometres from the château, the Parc Animalier de la Haute Touche, in the heart of the Parc Naturel Régional de la Brenne, is also a great favourite with children.
